For many people, this is very negative. Firstly, they point out that downloading books and music without paying is morally wrong – it is, after all, a form of stealing, just as much as if someone had shoplifted a CD. Secondly, they claim that if nobody buys music albums or books, then the people who produce them, such as novelists, journalists or musicians, will lose their livelihoods. Eventually, new projects may not be undertaken, and the whole industry will cease to function. Eventually, the only way to make money from writing and music will be through things like celebrity endorsements.

However, I believe that free access to books and music on the internet is a liberty to be enjoyed. Initially, the pleasure of reading books and listening to music was restricted only to a few. But internet has made it possible for everyone to enjoy these things. It is particularly good for young people to get access to a lot of music and books.

I feel that the only way to prevent accessing books and music is by strict monitoring and issuing penalties, but this would be extremely damaging because it would increase surveillance and control. Also, it would suppress creativity and undermine creative industries to a greater degree than giving free access.

In conclusion, I believe that the development is positive, and writers and musicians will adapt to technological changes. Good artists can thrive in any environment.
