BAND 8.0+ SAMPLE ANSWER:

Many people assume that the production of an increased number of goods is good for the economy and will generate wealth for all strata of society. They argue that increasing the production of goods will bring immediate benefit to rich industrialists and, in turn, they will provide employment for poor people in the community. Also, it is argued that wealthy people will contribute to the government in the form of taxes. Thus the money will benefit everyone, through improved health and education, and will result in a happy and developed society.

However, other people argue that increased production can have a negative impact. Wealthy people know how to fool the government and avoid paying taxes. Another argument is that though such growth propagates wealth, it does not build a better society. Instead, it will produce a consumerist mentality that draws a simple equation between having ‘things’ and being happy. It isn’t good for the moral development of the country and for the environment. As demand increases, it pollutes the environment through the production and disposal of waste.

I feel that economic growth should be encouraged with strict measures to ensure fair distribution of wealth.
